  • White Out wins Gold at ICCWC

White Out, an original Tug Hill Vineyards wine, made with cold-hardy Frontenac grapes grown at the 40-acre estate recently won Gold and the International Cold Climate Competition.

“24 judges from around the nation sipped and studied more than 300 wines August 15 at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Chaska. This is the only competition of its kind that focuses on wines made with cold-hardy grapes, fruit, or mead. The competition seeks to honor and promote wines of exceptional quality produced in these unique cold-climate regions. The competition is a partnership between the University of Minnesota Grape Breeding and Enology Project and the Minnesota Grape Growers Association.”

This is an important win for Tug Hill Vineyards, the International Cold Climate Wine Competition puts Tug Hill Vineyards in direct competition, on a national stage, with other wineries growing French-American cold-hardy hybrid grapes.

Earlier this year White Out represented Tug Hill Vineyards at the Eastern Winery Exposition held in Syracuse, NY. Derek Card, Tug Hill Vineyards Head Winemaker and Distiller presented this wine to a national panel and led a discussion on the continued development of French-American Cold Hardy Grapes and the best winemaking practices to create high-quality products.

At Tug Hill Vineyards we believe in authentic winemaking, limiting our production to the varieties that grow in our northern climate. Now in the 12th year of grape growing, Tug Hill Vineyards produces wines and spirits that are truly local products.

Special thanks to Derek Card for all his hard work and the Vineyard team who hand-maintains our vines!
